Bridging the Gap Foodbank was set up by the churches in Glastonbury in 2010 to help alleviate food poverty and serve those in need in the BA6/BA16 area. People can be referred by a variety of agencies, including the Job Centre, CAB, health professionals, housing associations, mental health services, police and ministers. Self-referrals are not accepted.

Approximately a week’s worth of food is provided for an individual or family, including fresh food as well as non-perishable items – delivered to the recipients by volunteers. Because Bridging the Gap is a small, local, independent charity, it can respond to specific needs such as vegetarian, gluten-free or vegan diets or those with no access to cooking facilities. Non-food items can also be supplied where requested such as nappies or hygiene items.
